My frustration is hitting the roof right now. I am sick to death of the *BS* claims being thrown around by idiots, scammers, stupid people and attention seekers about how to succeed with an eCommerce store.

I notice each person has thier own reason for thier *BS* claims and untested advice. Some do it as they are trying to take your money, some do it as they are trolling and writing anything that comes to mind, and some people do it because they are stupid and know no better.

YES! I agree there are a very, very select few who give “unbelievable claims of success” who really are getting those figures. But very, very few really are…..


  • It is not EASY for 99.9% of online businesses.
  • It is not FREE to get leads for 99.9% of businesses.
  • It is not FAST to become profitable for 99.9% of businesses.
  • It is not the “NORM” to pay $1 to get a $50 sale.
  • People are not sitting around waiting for your business and suddenly going to buy.
  • FB ads to a shitty offer do not convert “if you just get more leads”
  • A shity FB ad doesn’t just need “a wider audience” or “more targeting”


You can still succeed online!

Just make sure you are not listening to all the *BS* from people online.

Time and time again people are posting questions in FB groups asking why their FB ad is not converting. I saw one recently and the ad was “Sign up to my newsletter to get 20% off” …. SERIOUSLY! Tell me, would you sign up for a newsletter for a business you only just saw for the first time? NO! No-one would! That is why this person get no sign ups. There is absolutely nothing enticing about that offer. It is a “Shitty” ad….. But here’s the thing… Some “expert” told this woman her ad looks “fine” because people are clicking. People clicking is not enough. I bet most of those clicks are your competitors. Because whatever words you are targeting, odds are your competitors have those same interests on Facebook so your ad is shown to them (YEP! This is something those “experts” never tell you!).

In this case the offer was CRAP! This was a clothing store. I would have said “20% for the next 2 hours only” or “Be the center of attention in your new dress for 20% less”. Not Sign up for my newsletter…. What is a newsletter for a clothing store? Who wants a “newsletter” theses days? When you are trying to tell people to get on your “newsletter” list you can use a sentence like “And always be the first in the know”. Not “join my newsletter”.

I am so sick of seeing wishy washy ads and offers and the advice of “just target more people” or “spend more” or “add a popup to your website”.

What I find is that there are normally a few things going on that need to be fixed. And yes for the lead that starts with seeing your ad. But for the business owner it starts with the website. Inside my program the first thing I do I have a 1-on-1 strategy session with every new “student”, last week one of my students counted 16 things I told them to fix before trying to get sales. 16! They were not all big and none were about my personal taste for the product, all where about getting sales. I even asked at one stage if my client wanted sales or a passion project. He laughed and said sales!

These people out there telling you it is fast, easy and free to build a business are not telling you the truth, they want you along on thier ride and then they will BLAME YOU that you didn’t succeed!

Sure, if you have something truly unique and outstanding you will get a massive influx of buyers, but even with an “outstanding” product chances are you need help.


T-shirt businesses are prone to falling for this one…. Run a Facebook ad and get sales instantly.


Your t-shirt sells for $20 you are using dropshipping and print on demand which is means your t-shirt costs you $10. You will make $10 profit… You run a FB ad and a click to your website cost you $0.50 (on a good day). About 1.4% of website visitors buy (4% is a high conversion). NOW…. based on these figures, let’s say you get 100 visitors to your website and it cost you $50, and let’s say 4% buy (your store is awesome and unique). That is 4 t-shirts you sold, which is $40 profit…. mmmmm see the problem? You lost $10 if you stick to your standard process that everyone sprukes as being a successful way to make money.

SURE, if you were selling a $50 item things would be different, but this is why I said I see this all the time as the issue with t-shirt brands. So either the person giving the advice is lying, or they don’t have a clue and are using thier own situation as the example.

So, the thing is there are ways to fix this. One system I had my client put in place the other day was “free shipping on orders over $45”. This is one of my favorite simple strategies for t-shirt businesses. Why? Because if a t-shirt is $20, they need to buy 3 to get the free shipping.


Free traffic is easy to get. If you have a crap offer then no, it’s not easy. If you have something unique then you have much more chance of getting free traffic. Here is one way I get free traffic for my eCommerce clients. Instagram! Well it’s not free as they are paying me to get it, but you can do this yourself. The trick to Instagram is to interact with people who are likely to buy from you. How do you find these people? Find your competitors and look for the people who are following them. The people who are commenting are the BEST people as they are the most engaged and Instagram will see you as more important by the level of engagement you get. So “hang round” with engaged followers.

You also need awesome images if you are using Instagram, people are all scrolling quickly on Instagram and you need to grab thier attention.

There is a reason why people pay me to look after thier Instagram, they know it is worth it, they save time and they get great results. The reason why free traffic is not easy, is that it takes your time.


It’s not all scarey news, you can succeed online. Many people do. I am currently opening a new eCommerce store because I know there is money to be made. HOWEVER you need to do 1 thing before taking another step forward. You need to PLAN it out. Stop throwing balls in the air waiting to catch one. Stop and think for while.

  1. What is my goal?
  2. What # of items do I need to sell to reach my target?
  3. WHO is my audience?
  4. WHERE is my audience?
  5. Can I get in front of my audience for free? How?
  6. What will REALLY get them interested in my product?
  7. What is the benefit of buying my product?
